I am getting damp migration from the chimney stack into the living room. The stack needs to be re-pointed and made waterproof. I am getting conflicting advice on whether I can use normal morter to repoint or lime morter to protect the bricks from blowing. Has anybody solved a similar problem.

We are updating our kitchen, removing the old tile and countertops and replacing the sink too. The current model is a drop in ceramic.
We are reinstalling new granite countertops with new plywood support underneath.
The new sink is stainless steel undermount. I know the granite people can cut out the plywood and rest the flange thru the cutout, but that means the granite is not level. the other way is to use some brackets or braces under the sink, how is that done??

The heating ducts are all insulated. Should we also insulate the cold-air return? All the ducts pass through an unheated crawl space.

I am trying to solve co problem in the house. our gas range in the kitchen produces a 15 ppm amount of co after a couple of hours of cooking. Sometimes, co hits the 2nd floor. First, I thought the co detector was wrong. See my quetions.

1. Is it normal? Is there a dedicated vent for the gas range, other than fan hood?

2. Can this be fixed? Or, is it a known problem to everyone?

3. Is there such thing like flue attached to this gas range?

A neighbor has a wood burner for their only source of heat. They did last year as well. This year (but not last) I catch the scent of it at all hours of the day or night whether there is a wind or not. It stinks! Smells like something burning. They got reported earlier in the fall as not being properly vented but proved that they were. They were mad about it, too. They have small kids and besides the smell that stuffs ME up as it invades our home I am wondering if it's safe for them. Could they be doing something else wrong? Does it need to be cleaned? Help!

I am in Iraq, and i have an old water tank. I'd like to make a small pool or hottub out of it for my guys to cool off in during summer or relax in during winter. I have a sufficient water pump. I would like to know what basic pieces i need to keep water circulating and to keep it clean. (i.e. jet openings, chorine, filters, etc.) Where on the web can i buy these pieces at? I don't know anything about these, so please be as specific as possible.

I live in a 1930s terraced house (which I rent). The front door is wooden, and when we moved in in September, we had no problems opening or shutting it. Now, however, it's *really* difficult to open and shut. It is rubbing against the frame on both the side that opens and the base. It takes a massive yank to open it and I literally have to shoulder charge it to close it! And it won't shut properly, so although I can only get the yale lock at the top to engage, it's impossible to lock the more secure mortis lock (which obviously isn't ideal).

As I say, it's a wooden door and it has been very damp in the UK of late - so I'm guessing that could be the problem (ie it's expanded), particularly as it was fine before. I'm happy to ask my landlady to do something, but I'm not sure what I should be asking for!

Any suggestions gratefully received (rubbish door-related puns less so!).

Thanks!

My dining room is very cold and I believe it's because of my windows and the wooden frame. I have 2 windows in that room and I can feel cold air coming in from the bottom of the frame, not a lot though. I don't want to go about spending this money if it will not resolve the problem. Anyone has other ideas on why this room is so cold?
