During this ice storm, everyone in my complex is hearing BOOMS coming from the attic ! We have about 2 1/2 inches of ice here.

Certainly ICE is heavy. Without knowing the age, the construction, roof pitches, and duration, I'd assume it might be difficult to get a definitive answer here.

I'll also assume that building codes (Hopefully followed) are designed for LOCATION as well as other factors.

Since the problem seems wide spread, I'd get with those others who've experienced the same problem, and have an inspector come in and check the structures.

Again without knowing the ages or the contractor, I'd want to question the truss construction, and know the load ranges for tolerance in your location. I guess I wouldn't discount any possibility, especially as it regards safety and liability.

it will not snap from the cold but if there is alot of weight on the roof that will put pressure on it and posibly snap things if there is alot of snow or ice you should contact ur complex maintenece person or landlord and have him take care of it asap.
