I would not have one longer than four years. The batteries get replaced every year January 1. Also get an expensive one like a NightHawk. Worth the extra...

They don't last a Speedy Gonzalez moment if they are exposed to noxious fumes such as paint, cleaning products, solvents and strippers, etc.

The pamphlet that accompanies the detector should state this fact. These fumes can destroy the CO sensor in the detector. Many homeowners don't realize that they may have already rendered their detector useless by not removing it when they painted..............

they should last for a long time. contact the company's number on the back of your co detector.

If you don't think its working replace it. There are already 8 people dead in my state this year, because they didn't have one. You can get one cheap on ebay. Here's a direct link
