Lead piping is bad period. Lead is poisonous, and when used as piping for water, lead leaches into the water, slowly poisoning anyone who consumes that water.
Some attribute the series of insane Roman emperors and the collapse of Rome itself to the use of lead in things like plates. Lead leached into the food, and gradually caused insanity.

Yes, lead is bad, you should rip it all out and change it to copper or PEX. Are you sure it's lead and not galvanized?
