I have one of those lamps that you touch to make it come on. It's a small one for my bedroom. Recently the bulb blew and I can't find one that works properly. I found one that fits, however, it makes the lamp stay on all the time.
My husband and I have been to several different stores, including stores like Lowe's, Home Depot, Menard's to try and find one. When we asked for help at one of them, the lady told us that it's not the bulb but that the lamp itself is broke. I don't see how that can be, but I have no idea.
So, I need some advise as how to proceed? Do I need a special type of bulb? Is the woman in fact right and the lamp is broke? Any help would be very much appreciated.

We can't be sure, without seeing the lamp, but it sounds like it wasn't the bulb that blew. Was the old bulb a three-way? It is possible that you have the wrong bulb, but in the units I've seen, the lamp would still turn on and off with the wrong bulb. There should be a lamp repair store listed in the phone book. If it's a nice lamp, maybe it's worth having it looked at.

If the replacement lamp is not correct the fitting will not work correctly. The base of the lamp should have some writing on it, you'll need to find a lamp with exactly the same. Good luck.

Check the instruction manual for that specific lamp.

You need a 3-way bulb, try a lighting distributor in your area or shop one online.
