I am getting estimates on replacing my furnace and adding central air conditioning to my home. The slanted walls in my home pose a problem of how to measure the square footage to get the correct size furnace and air conditioner unit.

The house we just bought is great. But just one downside. The house is covered in ugly aluminum siding. My wife and I are considering replacing the siding with a more traditional wood clapboard. We live at the edge of a historic district and this style would look attractive and conform to the rest of the neighborhood.

The house is a small 2-story colonial. About 1300 square feet. Anyone know what kind of cost we are looking at? I'm just looking for a ballpark figure...

I have a GFCI Outlet in my bathroom. Of course, like most outlets in a house, you can only plug 2 electric devices in at a time. If I got an adapter that you plug into the 2 outlets to make it 6 outlets, would the GFCI still function properly if something came in contact with water?

We really only want to plug a Blow Dryer and an Electric Razor into the outlet but the Plug on the end of each item is too big for them to both plug into that outlet at the same time so I was thinking of getting an adapter with more outlets just to have the space to plug both items in.

I need to replace my oil furnace with a new heating system. What should I do? I don't want to spend too much money, but would rather pay a bit more now and save on monthly bills overall. I also live in an old house with lathe and plaster walls and would like to keep them intack if possible - so no major construction.

Our home inspector recommended getting window well covers and estimated they would be about $20 each. We have square window wells made out of brick. We want them with a slight angle but not the bubble kind. Looking at places like Home Depot they have really cheap ones that wouldn't fit. Looking online there are many custom covers that cost around $100 - 200. Isn't there something in between?

Hi,
I just installed the Ridge beam for my addition. On top of the posts that hold the beam up, I have simpson ccq column caps. The beam is resting on the roof, and two caps. The column cap in the middle has a small gap between it and the beam. My question is can I place some shims in the gap, or should I trim the roof portion of the ridge beam, so that the beam will sit flush in the column cap?

Thanks for your time,

pb4sc

my flute is already open and I just need to know about how long it will take for them to fly out and how do i know if they are leaving during the day. It has been at least six weeks. I am afraid to use the animal urine solution because I can not close the flute and I don't want the odor to come in my house.

Its a minor leak in a hot water side on a hall way shower. I'm trying to avoid having to cut the wall on the back side in order to solder a new fitting or re-soldering. I figure I can ask those professional plummers out there.
