Getting them out may not be as much of an issue as keeping them out. Bats are nocturnal and require eating just about nightly so they probably leave nightly to go out and feed.
You need to determine how they are getting in. Once you
have determined where that point of entry is, decide what you are going to do to close it up.
If you are lucky and do not have many bats up there, you could close the hole in the evening, a few hours after sundown and hope they have all left for the night. This way you may not have to catch them in the attic to throw them out once the hole(s) are closed. But, then you are working outside in the dark.
If you get the holes closed and still have a bat up there and need to catch him, I have found a larged hooped light weight fishing dip net to be effective. You'll want to have something to put the critter in, an old coffee can with a plastic lid or similar, and have heavy gloves in case you need to handle him to get him out of the fish net and into the can. Needle nose pliers also works to handle them. It can get a little exciting and be faced paced catching bats.
It works best with more than one person so the second person can keep them flying. A tennis racket or badmitton racket also works well to keep them flying. Kind of like a large fly swatter.
Once you have caught one in the house, please consider releasing him outside, unharmed. Bats are good mosquito catchers. They eat nearly their weight a day (night) in mosquitos. They are a natural preditor of mosquitos. That is part of the reason why they fly as irradictly as they do. Unless of course, you prefer mosquitos to bats.
I used to have to catch them for my grandmother in her attic. They gave me the creeps then, and to some extent still do now. But what are you going to tell your gandmother?
Good luck and happy hunting

bats are mammals - they have got reside younger. Just one after the other. Bats also are traditionally covered species - your exterminator will let you know that you simply cannot take away them, however nonetheless cost you for the decision out. Phone the neighborhood flora and fauna carrier alternatively. It will likely be inexpensive and they are able to support you discourage the bats with out killing them. However, you'll so much on the whole ought to wait until fall, incase this can be a maternity roost, in which the toddlers keep at the same time their moms feed. But they're innocent and can do you a well flip by means of preserving the detrimental mosquitos at a low quantity to your neighbourhood, protective you probably from west nile virus and all that different nasty stuff. why do you wish to grasp in the event that they lay egg, besides? what change might that make?

If you know you have bats, then you need to call an exterminator to eliminate the problem. If you think you have bats, then you can try using the electronic pest devices that chase bats away. They have them at Home Depot and Lowes and run about $30 a piece. A nice size attic would need two or three. Four to be sure.

Though I would not want bats in my attic, I'd be thrilled to have them in my bathouse that I had put up a few years ago. Bats are nocturnal, so make sure it is not the season they have young as the babies would be trapped in the attic. See where they are coming out of and put screen or some other covering up. Bats are our friends, they eat lots of mosquitos. They also pollinate certain night blooming plants. So please don't just kill them. You can find out more info about them by lookind up Bat Conservation International, a group out of Austin, Tx.

They are not a protected species then? don't kill them just try to make the attic less desirable so that no bat in their right mind would want to live there, they will get the message and leave.

Even if you get them out, they'll be back unless you can seal their entry. We used to own a home with bats, and the only solution was a new roof, aluminum fascia, vinyl soffit and vinyl siding. You're going to have to evaluate what it will take to keep them out before you try to get them out.
