Mountain Home 7,000 ft elevation. High sun exposure. Hugh temperature extremes, -20F to 100F. Currently Cedar Siding. Height of home varies from 20 ft to 30 ft.

Question # 1. Is Vinyl Siding susceptable to underlying problems like mold, wood rot ...etc?

Question # 2. Does the new vinyl siding that has a wood shake look (approximately 3 fot wide sheets) really do away with the seam/overlap look?

Please state the basis of your answer: i.e. trade person, homeowner with Vinyl Siding, etc.

Thank You

Seriously thinking of replacing asphalt shingle roof with a new metal residential roof. I live in a northern climate zone would like some advice from metal roof owners especially ones who replaced an asphalt roof. Looking at advanages, disadvantages and cost difference - Is it Worth It?

Last year we put in a new bathroom and we noticed a few weeks ago a chemical smell coming from the facet. What's weird is that the small ONLY affects the bathroom faucet and no other part of our place. I took off the aerator and noticed a few green granular balls right on the aerator. I removed the balls and the smell drastically improved for a few days, but the smell came back and now it is worse. The smell has a more of chemical smell like grass. The smell comes from both hot or cold water from the bathroom faucet. What makes this unusal is that the faucet is only 1 year old and the bathroom was gutted out a year ago.
Could the smell be coming from a corroded faucet or pipe?
Any ideas appreciated.

My apartment has a concrete floor. last time I painted it, within a year the paint had started to chip and peel off. Is there a special type of paint or some form of sealant I can put on top of the paint to slow this from happening?

I look after a house that has an infiniti pool.. there is a trough in which the spillage water goes into, but once in the trough, it never seems to exit and get sent back into the pool. Isn't that what is supposed to happen with the over flow water.. is there something I should be looking for in the pump house.. the filter system is on, water is coming out thru the jets, but the water is not coming from the trough.. Help the pool is brand new, and I think there is something major wrong with it.

I don't have a lot of luck just using Windex. My windows still always seem to look like they need cleaning. I always use a clean cloth to clean with too.

today i bought an old store table from Dollar General in hopes of turning it into a cage for my lizard....i is perfect for what i have in mind except it has four crude metal legs on the bottom....they are icky so i planned on taking them of.....they are attached with basic nuts and bolts (four to each leg) the top of the bolts are flat....i have gotten one leg off and two bolts out of the other three the remaining bolts though are really hard to unscrew...they are flat instead of phillips or flat head so i am reduced to removing the nuts and everytime i try no matter what i use the bolts spin with the nuts and no progress is made....does anyone have any simple suggestions? im not about to go spend a lot of money just to get the stupid legs off a 5 dollar table but anything i can do with household items???? PLEASE its taken me about two hours to do what i have and i am not gonna quit please help

Whenever it rains a lot, it gets really damp in my basement. After a little while, these black moldy spots start spreading across the walls. Does anyone have any tips as to how to get rid of the mold, and perhaps prevent more mold from growing? Thanks a bunch!

I think it was either algae or mold, not sure. Does anyone know how to fix this? I already put a solution in it and let it run for an hour, then drained the jacuzzi and scrubed it down with a cleaner. I'm afraid it may be in the pipes or come back when i fill it.

So far, everyone has told me to remove the unit from the wall (see my previous question), and then clean the unit because it's either clogged or iced over, which is making it leak inside the house,....but where my a/c unit is, there used to be a window. It appears as if they put hte unit in and then built the wall around it. It's completely sealed in. I don't see how it would be possible to slide the unit out of a "sleeve". From outside, its the same way, and appears to be sealed off, and looks like it won't budge. I don't think that my landlord would put in something so permanent, because obviously these things don't last forever, I just don't see anywhere on or around it that it would move. Is there something that I'm not seeing right? I wouild think that there has GOT to be some way to remove the unit without taking out a wall, right? Help!
