Could be a couple of reasons that the water keeps running. Remove the tank lid and see if the water is going over into the overflow tube. You may need to adjust the water level to prevent this from happening. The fill valve may have a worn washer and will not shut off all the way which could cause it to go over the overflow. Or the flapper valve may need to be adjusted or replaced. One good way to find out if the problem is the fill valve or flapper is to turn off the water going into the tank. Look to see where the water level is inside the tank. Wait a few hours and see if the water lever has dropped. If it has, then change the flapper. If it has not dropped, then the problem is the fill valve. You can change the washer if you can find one or replace the valve. Good luck!

Until you can get it repaired, turn off the valve under the toilet tank until you need to use the toilet again.
Flapper needs changing: Lift the cover, put your hand down on the bottom of the tank where the flapper (valve) is. The properly working flapper is supposed to keep the water from running into the bowl until you release it by lifting the flush handle.
Float ball problem: If water is running out the overflow tube because the water level in the tank is too high, then that needs adjustment.
A continuously running toilet will cause a very high water bill.

There is a balloon an a valve !
When the water reaches a certain level , the balloon makes
the valve prevent any water from entering the bowl !
Something must be jamming the valve !
Like the "blue stuff" we usually put into the bowl !
Just remove it and everything should be ok !
Good luck !

there is only 3 things that can make this happen... #1 is the fill valve or ballcock. to fix this, turn off the water supply to the toilet and remove the old fillvavle then install the the new one. #2 is the flapper, just remove the old one and install the new one.. very easy to do as well as cheapest . #3 is the flush vavle. this is the part that the flapper rest on. it is not likely this is the prob but if it is u may need to contact a plumber to replace this item. i would start with the flapper and go from there... most likely it is the flapper.... good luck

Lift the lid and look for the big floating ball on a metal stick. This is the float, it tells the toilet when to shut off for when its full. Slightly bend the rod down so the float sits lower in the tank. This is an easy and quick fix.
Past that you might need a new in tank assembly. Can be purchased at Lowes or Home Depot, if renting have Landlord pay and replace it.

Yes... Take lid back off and wiggle the black thing on the left that goes up and down... It needs to be in the up position to shut the water off... If you can pull it up and the water still runs, do the last 2 things I've written here...Also, the flap on the floor of the tank should be down and NOT letting any water escape from the tank... There may be some extra chain getting in the way of it making a good seal... If all else fails, turn off the water underneath by turning the faucet handle all the way down... Call a plumber tomorrow, if need be...

you could have one or more problem 1 check the float if the water is too high in the tank then bend the bowl lever down so less water in tank or there is a seal leak and you should get help for that.2 the pipe that should be above water in tank level has a hole in it again you need help.
