This house was built in 1928. It has the old brick columns halfway up and then wood columns to the roof on the front of the house. my front porch is about 16 x 8 concrete slab. I hate this look and I would like to get the old brick columns removed but there is a small room over the porch. I would like the front porch to be screened in to make it appear different. With the room over the porch I wonder if I will need to keep the big brick columns. I don't have a lot of money to work with but I will need to get something done before long. Who will I need to contact? How expensive do you think this could be?

having recently purchased a house, we were contimplating having a pool, only to disciver that the previous owners had a pool but have filled it in, we know that is is filled with sand, but we are not sure whether the pool is badly damaged, a friend of mine said that usually they are punctured(it's fibreglass) and left to drain then filled, if we want to put a pool in do we need to remove this one or can it be repaired in some way, is this the only way that you can empty them. I don't have any contact address for the previous owners or i would ask them.

My apartment had a problem a few nights ago where it was raining and then water started soaking up through my carpet. (There was roof work being done and they left something up there uncovered.)
I have been sucking water out of it madly with a steam cleaner and I have fans on it 24/7 but it is still damp and now it is starting to smell!!!
Help! How can I speed up the drying and get rid of the smell? And please, so smart aleck answers!

I just got a new portable dishwasher, but my kitchen sink's faucet has no threading on it, so there is no way to screw the hose onto the kitchen faucet. Is there an adapter that I can buy to bypass this problem?

There are a couple of web sites that will sell the system at about 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of what I have been quoted to replace our central AC system. The outside compressor would be easy enough, but the furnace is in a closet upstairs. A 5 ton system is going for about $5800, while I am getting quotes in the range of $12,000. Is there really $6,000 in labor to replace one of these units. My last salesman said it was about a 2 day job.

I had plugged in my lamp, and put a new lightbulb in, when all of a sudden it sounded like a small crisp or something, went on in the lamp. I quickly unplugged the lamp. I tried to plug in my alarm clock, but it didn't work. After asking a few people, they said the outlet must have short circuited or blew a fuse

MY QUESTION.. is that, How do i fix a fuse, and how much does it roughly cost to hire somebody to fix it?

...** I'm going to assume its a fuse problem, because the bathroom adjacent to my room doesn't work.. eg: the lights don't work, and the hallway light doesn't work **

Humidity is over 60% in house. There are floor drains and sump pump in basement. House is 2 story with basement. Heat pump in basement. Tons of room to install equipment. Portable unit does not do the job, and it's noisy. Have a new HVAC heat pump Trane 16i 16 SEER. Mid Atlantic region weather. Keep windows closed all year.
