which colored wires r u talking about? the ones where it's connect to the main supply? or the wires inside the speed control? if it's the long wire to be connected to the plug to be plugged to the wall socket, depending on the country/region where u live, in USA, commonly red & black, (sometimes green for earthing) red is for live and black for neutral it dosen't matter which wire is connected to which pin of the plug because the plug can be plugged to the wall socket in any direction, for most of the 2 pin plugs, if it had 3 wires (in UKand other parts of the world that uses 3 wires the colors are 1)brown or red(live, tobe connected on the left side of the plug with the fuse) 2)blue or black (neutral on theright side of the plug) & 3)green or green & yellow (earth on the top, the biggest of the 3 pins) be careful, it's electricity you're messing with.

Red is low blue is medium black is high.
