is it true that there is really 2 air filters for central air in most homes or in all homes and where is it ?

I have never heard that one. In every home I have had and at my office, the only filter is at the air intake vent.

One would think, too many filters in place and the airflow would be diminished.

Most single unit homes have one. Systems that are zoned will have more than one. Also a home with a loft will have a smaller return located in it. Also some units will have a filter at the air handler and another at the return. These are typically higher end units.

in homes that have two hvac units, there would of course, be two units

some homes are built with a secondary filter, it can be located before the humidifier, if there is one, or any a variety of places before the air streams splits off to the different rooms

i once lived in a home that had an electro-static precipator (a super fancy dust collector), in the hvac duct in addition to the usual filter

No some homes only have one. Look for the air handler, it is the fan portion of the system. The outside unit is the compressor. The air filter will be near the air handler, where the cool inside air returns to it.

most homes have one filter ,some have hepa filter that are down stream of the first set that filter out minute particle but the filters are kinda high priced and the are all located between your return duct and the blower

Most units (and I've owned a dozen) have one filter, and it's right next to the fan in the central unit itself. They are (inexplicably) annoying to change, but you can buy them by the box for less than a dollar each.
