First job is to make sure you're talking about 1,000 square meters (which is 31.6 meters x 31.6 meters), as opposed to 1,000 meters square (which is 1,000 meters x 1,000 meters). Small difference in wording, big difference in area.
A meter is a little more than a yard, so think of 35 yards on a football field.
