First of all I should say we live in Kansas City. Planted roses in the front of the house, now I would like to put some kind of low growing plant in front of them, to fill up the space. I am thinking something that will be green for a long while, not a juniper (don't care much for them) I am kind of at a loss. Any ideas?

I have been growing a Pineapple plant for almost a year now, but although the central leaves are growing fine, the lower leaves have all fallen flat.

Is this natural or is something wrong?

Do you really have to dig up your bulbs in the fall? If so, when do you do it exactly. I have tulips and other bulbs that come up every year. But, I just bought some Gladioli bulbs today and the directions say dig them up in the fall.

If we had a meal that leaves organic waste we put it in our freezer and wait for trashmen to come and pick it up.You will never catch me throwing smelly stuff into my rubbish bin.I only put my bin out on footpath in three weekly periods. But our recycling bin fills up so quickly.I put all other smelly organic stuff in my garden.I just cant understand why people keep on putting their hardly filled rubbish bins out on sidewalks without fail.

I recently removed a flower bed that I seeded with new grass 4 weeks ago that had existing grass next to it. The new grass is growing well, (almost fully grown), but the old grass has alot of clovers, crab grass, dandelions and other assorted unwanted weeds growing. How or what do I use to get rid of all of these unwanted weeds WITHOUT effecting the recently seeded grass? Also I'd like to make the entire lawn grow in thicker and greener. I'm kinda new to gardening and such, so any help offered would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I just bought a house with several large lilac bushes. And I've always loved them. I believe that they re-flower all summer and know enough to know that feeding and cutting the blooms with have an impact upon this, But that's about the end of my knowledge, can anyone help?

I am an avid gardener, and had some beautiful tall fat gladioli in various colours, peach, cream with pink tinge on the edge, blood red, yellow. They were those colours for about 4 years. Suddenly this year they have all come out early by about 2 months, and are all a flourescent purple magenta colour.
Whilst they are very pretty. I would have prefered they had stayed the colours that I chose.

Hi Guys...I got a HUGE tree in my backyard. It is at least 40-60 ft tall, has a "v" shaped trunk and wide spread of the branches. The trunk itself (if you take in the whole "v" is probably 5-6' around if not more.

Recently I was putting in a fence and pulled off some vines growing on this thing when I noticed saw dust around the tree. I knew it had termites once before which I had sprayed for. I went around the neighbors fence (where the vines had once grown) and saw light reddish brown "dirt" looking sawdust. I begin to dig all this stuff out, I found a few ants (maybe carpenters?) and some small winged critters (maybe termites?) but nothing that seemed like a big colony by any means. Anyway...a good part of the base of this tree is now "paper" 6"-1' sections came off in my hand. I dug out a hole of sawdust up to my elbow right down the center of the tree. But there is still alot of good trunk left. It looks like 50% is good, other 50% is "paper" Can it be saved?

I live in Canada and we have a short growing season. I would like to replace my grass lawn with a low ground cover that doesn't require a lot of watering or cutting. I don't want a rock garden or wood chips. I'll have to be able to rake leaves on it in the fall. I don't have kids or pets so it doesn't matter if it is "treadable". Any ideas?

I am making a sign for my yard, and I need a really tall round post - like 10 ft. tall. I can't find one at any home-type stores, so I'm wondering if I can go cut down a tree and use the trunk as my post. Will it rot? Can I treat it so that it doesn't rot? Or do you have any other suggestions?

We recently moved into a house that has been used as a business for the past 20-25 years. We are in the process of turning it back to a home. The property backs onto a small tributary of a local river (read - almost non-existant at this point, but lots of swampy/ woodsy vegetaition.) Last fall we cut back a lot of vines and what we thought were weeds, and laid down mulch to make flower beds. This spring, we've noticed that some of the vines are gowing leaves that look like grape leaves (and we've even noted what looks like tiny grape clusters). Our neighbors mentioned that the family who used to live in the house before it was a business were avid gardeners and did in fact grow grapes. So I'm guessing that what I'm seeing are edible grapes, but they've been cut down to the quick. No trellises, and the vines look like roots that are coming right from the ground. How do I re-establish them? Do I need to trellis them yet? Should I prune off the grape bunches to encourage the vine to grow?

The Michigan Bulb Company is great for perrenials but they don't carry most of the flowers that are considered annuals for my area (zone 6). Are there any great online flower/plant guides out there? Or even an online store that carries annuals I can use for browsing?
