who trims grass on my side of fence?

I am sorry to say.....you already know the answer.
Proper fence ediquette protocol dictates that the person that has the most use of the land is responsible for the care of said land. As the person on the useable side of the fence, you are responsible for maintaining it. Sorry

If you are looking for a more legally binding answer as opposed to "etiquette"...then you can serve the owner of the land with a "Nuisance Abatement" letter from your local city hall after the grass gets really tall and ugly.
