Chickens like to eat everything. Save all of your vegetable matter from the kitchen everyday and give it to them. You can use anything you would put in a compost pile, except eggshells. This will make them go after the other chickens eggs. They love cooked rice too. And they love corncobs. You can plant any garden greens right outside their chicken wire fence and as it grows, they can eat what they can reach through the wire. I also used to lay a piece of plywood in their coop and let the bugs collect under it. Once a week I would move it to a different spot and let them eat their little delicacies.

They do like lettuce and there are varieties available that are cut and feed types just for poultry. Check with the local Ag extension in your state if you have them. Also farm supply store may stock the seeds. I believe Gurney's Seeds did at one time and may still do so. I'm assuming these chickens don't have access to a pasture or yard, etc. If they do, then just let them eat what plants they will. They know what they like.

Chickens eat grasses and almost any weed growing in the yard. They don't eat them for a source of foods as much as for the minerals and vitamins in them. They know what they need or want so just toss them any grass. They even eat lettuce and cabbage. When they eat green things it makes their eggs an orange color as opposed to the pale yellow found in the stores. This is also known as "range" eggs.

Chickens like to eat bugs. I'm sure they will eat plants too, but I raised chickens throughout highschool and I don't remember them eating any plants. Just the grain we provided and bugs from the yard.
