I am making a sign for my yard, and I need a really tall round post - like 10 ft. tall. I can't find one at any home-type stores, so I'm wondering if I can go cut down a tree and use the trunk as my post. Will it rot? Can I treat it so that it doesn't rot? Or do you have any other suggestions?

If you have access to tree cutting and have a tall cedar they work great.
Many farmers do this.

I know you can use cedar trees for posts, but if it doesn't have to be absolutely round, you could use a 10' 4 x 4 or a landscape timber--they'd be preserved, so they won't rot.
