I am living in an old house and where the original back "porch/stoop" was its open to the dirt below and I am wanting to put an herb garden in that little spot. {its about 2ftx3ft}. How do I go about starting an herb garden and what herbs are best to plant and can be used regularly for cooking and other things around the house?

I have about 6" of topsoil over clay in my whole yard. This results in soggy lawn all winter and most of Spring, plus un-usable yard for at least a week after every rain. Chicago area. What is the best way to drain off the water trapped on top of the clay? Will doing so mean the grass will suffer from lack of moisture?

My yard is swamped by day lillies. Apparently the previous owner loved them. I want to remove them so I can put other stuff there, but even the ones I dug up last fall are coming up again. Please help! I really don't like lillies--they remind me of death way too much to be comforting.

I received an Easter Lily plant for Easter (obviously) it is blooming and doing very well. Can I plant this and if so, where, when and how. Plus is it better to keep it inside or out and will it bloom again?

They are about 2 - 3 inches high. Should I leave them in the little pots they are in for now until established a bit more OR re-pot them into bigger pots now?

I live in SW Michigan on the lake. I plant Morning Glories every year. They are lovely! I generally plant them in late May and they come out in August. Can I start them inside? As long as they have plenty of sun, they should be okay, right? They do need full sun, correct? I've been having problems with them the past few years. #1 problem is bugs esp. those Afids (sorry, I can't spell it!) and Japanese beetles, spray seems to harm the plants. #2 I plant them in a pot and let them grow on an IVY covered thick post. The Ivy seems to overpower them. I don't think the two should be together, am I right? Now, the Ivy grows from the ground and not the pot so the Morning Glories do get their own water. Should I plant them somewhere different without IVY? Also, what kind of soil is best? And are there certain products I can use to speed up the growing process? AND LASTLY, Can I put them in partial sun? Oh, sorry! One more! What are MOONFLOWERS, THEY ARE LIKE MORNING GLORIES?

I plan to build a raised garden bed in my back yard to grow vegetables (tomatoes, squash, etc.). I am planning to raise the bed only about 5.5" from the ground. Is that enough to make a difference or does the bed have to be higher? It seems like there are lots of variations on bed height from about 5.5" to about 30". I don't know if this makes a difference, but I am in Zone 7. Thanks for the help.

I have already skimmed it off once but it has grown back. The pond is not lined as it has been dug into clay. Help!! I just bought a house and need 20 or more lawn lights. Does anyone know of a good site to purchase these lights in bulk....meaning the price will be cheaper rather than buying from a retail store like Target.

I just bought a new house with a bare dirt backyard. I don't want to put in sod because I want room to plant various flowers and herbs and vegetables. I do want a groundcover also though so it's not just bare dirt where I don't have anything growing. Can anyone recommend a hardy easy to grow groundcover that is attractive but grows like a weed? I live in a very sunny and dry location (Southern California) with clay and sandy soil. Thanks!

I need some sand, I called my local nursery. They said that 1 cubic yard of sand would cost me $25.00. But I don't know exactly how much 1 cubic yard is. They said it would fit into my pickup truck, a chevy silverado. If I knew how many pounds, then I,d know for sure if the sand would fit in my truck. Other wise I'll have to pay for delivery. Hope someone can help, Thanks
