Kentucky Bluegrass gives you the thickest and lushest turf, but it also full sun and requires that you fertilize and irrigate it to keep it that way.

It is normally recommended that when you use a mixture of three or more varieties of bluegrass so that if one variety gets a disease the remaining selections take over.

If you have areas of both sun and shade you should consider a blend of several species of grass. Golf courses typically use a combination of bluegrass, red fescue and perennial rye. This give your a greater chance of success. This type of information is listed on the bag of grass seed or can be provided by your sod dealer or Hydro-seeder.

KY Bluegrass. I don't know if it will grow in the midwest, or not. You'll have to check. It will require watering and fertilizing to keep it looking good. It is a pretty grass though.
