My yard is swamped by day lillies. Apparently the previous owner loved them. I want to remove them so I can put other stuff there, but even the ones I dug up last fall are coming up again. Please help! I really don't like lillies--they remind me of death way too much to be comforting.

Make the job easy and ask friends and relatives if they want any. Have them dig them up for you to take home. If someone close to me was giving away day lillies and all they required was that I dig them up, I'd be more than happy to dig them up. You just have to make sure you get the majority of the roots up. So you'll need to dig down about a foot.

If you use round-up, you'll kill EVERYTHING in that area and you won't be able to get hardly anything to grow there. You might be able to paint it on and kill just the day lillies.

Day lillies are prolific and tenacious. Keep digging, you'll still have a few volunteers spring up all the time. Or you can try using Roundup -- quick fatal finish is to paint it on them undiluted.

Maybe you could post a message in your community inviting people to come get them FREE on a specific weekend?? Or go to gardenhere.com and "visit" a forum, state you have millions to get rid of. People there will send you postage paid envelopes for you to get rid of your lillies.

good luck

Barley straw will purely help to eliminate algae. For blanket weed isn't an algae. bypass on your nearest aquatics centre, they inventory products to eliminate it. i exploit a product made via Oase (i think of this is the way it incredibly is spelt ) it rather works, slightly costly to purchase besides the incontrovertible fact that it lasts for a protracted time, i offered mine 4 years in the past and there continues to be allot left and that i exploit it on my mothers and my ponds each year. Now it incredibly is rather under administration.

I wouldn't get rid of ALL of them. Maybe keep your favorites or at least keep the bordering ones. If they are throughout your entire lawn, I can understand that. You would have to use Round-up, but don't spray too much on the grass, try to get to the root of the plant.

Did them up and pass them out at work, or to friends. Or have friends come and dig them for you. Nothing like passing on a living thing.

You have dig down deep around them and get up the entire bulb cluster. You should ask a neighbor if they want them....thats how I got all of mine.

You have to dig up the bulb. If you do pull the bulbs up you should give them to someone who will appreciate them.

Do you know they are edible. Look on these links
