The grass in the frontyard of my Phoenix house is all dead. I am planning to replace the grass with gravels/rocks. I wonder if I should lay 1 inch of rocks with fabric underneath or 2 inches of rocks without fabric? Any other better recommend option if I like to be able to have a few plants with minimal maintenance?

Should I use river rocks or gravels (or maybe they are the same)?

I assume the procedure is 1) remove dead grass 2) lay the fabric 3) place gravels evenly.

Anything I may have missed?

There is a tulip garden where I am living that belonged to my grandmother.
it's been there ever since I was little.
see no one has taken care of the flowers in awhile, but today i did.
I was taking all the weeds out and it looked like the roots to the tulips were coming above ground too.
is this normal?
is there a way to fix this or should i just leave it be?
also the tulips have seemed to stray out of the garden, they are growing on the outside of the border we put them in
should i just make the border bigger or can i transplant them somewhere else?
can you help these flowers have been around a long time i would hate to see them die.
thanks in advance
:)

Our city ordinances do not allow for burning, so that's out. I know Roundup will do it if enough is used, but that can get pricey real quick!

I don't care what I use to kill it, as long as it stays gone. If whatever I use prevents new vegetation (in any form) from growing there for years to come, all the better. Someone had suggested pouring gas on the ground, but that's a fire hazard. Not going there.

I need kinds of plants that don't need a lot of direct sunlight because of the balcony above me and the fence. They would also need to be ok with a lot of water. The lady upstairs waters her plants a lot and the water drains down.

So what is the best option to get rid of them. I havent used my mole trap yet cuz I havent had to yet. I need help please.....I just laid down new grass and bought lots of new trees and shrubs yesterday, I dont want it all to die and waste my money on things that dont work right.

I'm building a retaining wall that well be about 4 feet high. I've built straight ones before and always used a string for a straight line. But with a curved wall what would be the best way to make sure it has a perfect curve to it? It will kind of be in the shape of a 6, but not as round or dramatic. So anyone have any ideas?

Okay ... here's the thing! My front yard is a bunch of rocks!! It's terrible. I have huge, HUGE, rocks and little bitty pebbles that are annoying and driving me nuts. Well, I'm not very creative when it comes to landscaping and such. Can ya'll please give me some ideas on what to do with all of these. My husband says throw them in the neighbors yard! lol ... I can't do that. But we're going to try and get some grass growing here soon and I would like to use these rocks but not sure how ... any suggestions on how to use them creatively? Thanks! :o)

I am looking for a garden vegetable that is commonly used in food and doesn't take up large amounts of room. I don't have a lot of space cleared for gardening at this point, but I am working to expand it. Also, I'd like a vegetable that is known for being abundant so maybe I could share with the family/neighbors.

For the last 3 years or so, I have done pumpkins, zuchinni( I have no idea how to spell that) and melons. But, this was a huge mistake in my case because the vines crawled all over the place- and cleaning up all that in the fall wasn't exactly a trip to the beach, either.

I have grown tomatoes in recent years, also- and have had a good turnout every time. I realize they don't take up a lot of room, but I'm looking for something different. And I am thinking to stay away from herbs, too- knowing the way I am I wouldn't be able to tell them apart form weeds!

What kind of vegetables do you recommend?

Why does a pothos plant share the same name as a Greek god of sexual longing? Is there any lore behind this? Any help would be appreciated, I am helping with a science project and botany was never my strong suit. Thanks in advance.

Not mulch, wood chip for a path! There is a path through the woods to get to my parents house! 4 wheelers, and people would be the only things using the trail! Usually it is very muddy, so I thought about using wood chips, from the tree cutters going down my road to use to walk/ ride on so itdoesn't get so muddy? What do u think?

Should you soak the seeds in water first? Put the seeds in a pot of soil for a while? Or just open the packet and stick the seeds in the ground?
