In my area, the average size of a building lot is apporximately a quarter of an acre, about 10,000 square feet. An acre is 43,560 square feet.

I really don't think there is a average size for a lawn what will fit in your area and looks good if its smaller than 4 buy 9 i would recommend putting some sort of plants instead of grass if you have animals the bigger the better especially if the use it to go to the bath room cause you get yellow spots there are chemicals out there to stop that.
