I'd like to send flower seeds to a friend in Canada. It occurred to me, however, that I might not be allowed to send them out of the U.S., and/or Canadian customs might not allow them into Canada. I searched all over the U.S. Postal Service website but couldn't find anything about whether a seed exchange is allowed or not. (Maybe I missed it?)

If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. BTW, they are not a large quantity, nor were they any type of business transaction. I'm just sharing a handful of seeds of a flowering perennial (Mirabilis jalapa) that a Canadian friend said she'd like to try growing, and I happen to be growing myself. :) If seeds are not allowed thru the mail, for some weird reason, then when I fill out the customs form, I won't say that the contents are seeds.

We planted two cucumbers plants in our garden this summer. One of the plants has produced nice green cucumbers while the other has produced these really long, yellow zucchini-looking things. The plants themselves look identical. Did we accidently plant a zucchini or some wierd cucumber variant?

On the east side of my home I get approx 4 hrs of morning sun, and the north side there is a little sun during different times of the day (no more than 1-2 hrs). On the West side there is dappled sun for approx 2hrs due to all the tress blocking the sun's setting. On the South side there is ample sun for most of the day, some dappled here and there. I've a rather sandy soil surrounding the house, but it is fertile due to the yrs of organic material composting there, i.e., grass clippings, oak leaves and some pine needles, so it is a little on the acidic side. Any and all ideas would be appreciated, and if posible let me know where I could get any suggestive plants, As ever, trickyricky

My yard is pretty bumpy, when I mow. I know the bigger holes and divets may have been caused by dogs that where there before I bought it. I plan to fill those in with Dirt. But, the rest is very bumpy under that grass, is there anything that can be done besides regrading it?

My grass is dying... in patches. It hasn't been watered too much, but it hasn't been overly dry here. I'll give it a really good water a couple of times a week... but it doesn't perk up after I water it. A neighbor of mine was told that his yard had some sort of fungus, and mine looks like a more advanced stage of his yard. Crabgrass is growing, even in the dead patches, so I know that it wasn't like someone came and sprayed Round Up or something on it. Do I have to throw in the towel and dig up the whole yard or can I save it?

I planted mammouth sunflowers from seed in my garden. They have grown great! They are about 10 to 12 feet tall with the heads developing nicely but not with seeds yet. Now they are all drooping despite watering, etc. What happened?

How do you get rid of ant hills in your yard?

2006-08-17 04:34:47 · 5 answers · asked by Lola 3

I have been told that that if you remove the food source then they will leave. I have spread insect killer, but the problem is that I have a lot of worms in the soil and it is almost impossible to get rid of earthworms, and I understand that worms are their favorite food. I have also tried the spiked traps with limited success but I’m looking for a more permanent solution.

As I've been in very poor health this summer I haven't been able to attend to my garden as much as I have in the past. Last week I finally managed to get out there and start tidying up when I noticed a very dry patch in the corner of my lawn. It turned out it was a large ant's nest, it had several "entrances" formed at the top and overall it measured about 6ft x 4ft. I've been able to kill the nest but now I'm left with a horrible dry patch.

What's the best way to fix this without it costing an arm and a leg?

I'm going to post a pic on-line later and paste the link to it here.

Thanks in advance!
