ask how long the work will take and then you can calculate his daily rate. You can also ask for a breakdown of materials and labour. The average builder is going to charge about £120 -£150 a day. Also get 3 or 4 quotes and see how much discrepancy there is.

Get at least three quotes from different builders. The local council usually have a list of approved trades people. Also try friends and family as I have found word of mouth is the best form of advertising. Be warned though that a good builder is likely to be very busy.

u need about 300 bricks =£200
1 tonne all in + cement = £60
1 tonne soft sand + cement=£60
removal of soil £??/skip
labour= £320
total £640 + removal of spoil
get couple quotes and go 4 the one u trust and can deal with not the cheapest, but the nicest. Presuming its not retaining wall which will be more. Traders with waste haulage license MAY remove spoil themselves cheaper

Well, Wrangler Jane... You need to get quotes from a few different ranch hands. Ask each one how he's going to reinforce the wall, because even at that height, it needs to be sturdy. Someone might try to save time just stacking the brick, which wouldn't be a good idea.

Get at least three quotes from people recommended by friends/neighbours. Have a friend present when the builder visits to price the job, and don't pay any money until the job is finished. Good luck!

Have few quotes and pick the one you think is right for the price.
