I am moving house and have a luscious banana tree in my garden, how do I take cuttings?

bananas produce small plants around the base called "hijos". carefully dig with small tool around base to expose roots, use a sharp knife to separate the hijos from the larger parent plant (be sure to keep as much root as possible on the hijos.)
Place the plants in a wet burlap sack or other pourous sack and be sure to keep root ball moist too. When you get to your new place, be sure to transplant the hijos immediately in a place where they will thrive. It would help to put soem organic fetilizer with potassium and phosphorus which helps with the shock of transplanting.
Good luck

I just pulled a few smaller ones out of the ground and planted them in the new bed covering the roots deeply.

take one of the small ones, and give it LOTS of water - they will transplant fairly easily.... their roots are massive.
