We planted two cucumbers plants in our garden this summer. One of the plants has produced nice green cucumbers while the other has produced these really long, yellow zucchini-looking things. The plants themselves look identical. Did we accidently plant a zucchini or some wierd cucumber variant?

Zucchini and cucumber plants look totally different. Zucchinis don't grow on trailing and climbing vines the way cukes do. So if your plants look pretty much the same you probably just got a different variety of cukes.

You might want to call your County Extension Agent and ask him what it is. Could it be a squash of some kind--that's yellow? I've never heard of a yellow cuke before. An English Cucumber (the one without seeds) is usually thin and narrow, but it's a darker green. I suppose if it didn't get enough light during the growing season, it could be yellow.

I'll be interested to find out what someone who gardens thinks.
