I have heard that provided it's less than a litre of oil it is OK but I'm not too sure. Failing that, I guess the normal thing would be to let it 'soak away' into the ground at the back of the garden.

I have three of them and i found them growing under a tree in the back yard. Origninally I thought they may have been orchids but now I am not so sure as they have long spindly type leaves growing our of bulbs at the base. The root system is complex and compact, similar to orchids, without much soil etc. Any clues would be appreciated.

Fairly large backyard area, light pet and foot traffic, full sun to partial shade. Soil will be commercial topsoil, can add whatever is needed (like fertilizer, pH adjustment, etc.) before planting of ground cover. Need very low maintenance planting, but we can water regularly. Will be using flagstone or paving stones for walkways and would like something that will fill in well between stones. Area is Silicon Valley, CA, so may experience a few days of very high temps in summer and one or two hard freezes in winter, but temps are generally mild all year. We like the look of Irish Moss and want something mat-like which will eventually be dense enough that weeding will not be an issue. We need something with a soft texture, as the family dog will be rolling in whatever gets planted as soon as we let him. Especially appreciate input from people who are using ground covers instead of lawn grass. Links to pictures with descriptions/requirements also appreciated.

I have strawberries, and normally they have fruit in early june. This year however, they are in a second flowering cycle and are producing fruit again!! Is this unusual? If so, what would cause this to happen?

I would like to plant a couple of trees in my backyard, which currently has none. It's not a huge area, but would support a tree in each back corner without any problems. What type would provide the most shade and least mess? Region is North Texas.

A most beautiful rose of sharon decided to grow too close to the foundation of the house. I need to move it soon. When would be the best time to transplant it? Thanks in advance for your thoughtful answers.
