Yes, depending on where you are, you might have to water it once to twice a day. Do NOT water during the heat of the day. That can scorch it and turn it brown as well.

If your grass stays brown after frequent watering, perhaps it is affected by a fungus disease known as brown patch & you need to control the disease with a fungicide.

it depends on why it is brown...

if the yard is turning brown as a whole, then most likely considering the time of year (although i dont know where you live)

if the yard is going brown in patches, then it is most likely a disease or insects

nah, I keep it long so I don't have to water it as often. My neighbors give me funny looks for it though

it either means that you need to water it or that the Sun is killing it bcuz of too much heat.

It could also have a lawn disease, a fungus that ate away the root system and killed the lawn.
Maybe moles, or voles.
Very possibly, lawn grubs.
