I go to WalMart and buy some ant killer. It is like granular grain and comes in a bag. Stir up the ant hill and sprinkle a hand full over the hill. Kills the ants. Don't do right before a rain or efforts are wasted. There are several good brands, we use Ortho ant and termite killer

Here is a tip I received only a week ago. I have not tried it but they swear it works miracles in getting rid of ants. Aspartame is an artificial sweetener found in NutraSweet and Equal and I am told it was originally developed as an ant poison. Sprinkle packets of this stuff anywhere ants are to be found whether inside or outside the house. Inside for the small black ants you may have to mix with a little apple juice and outside may work best if misted with a little water after application. I am told it works on all ant species including Fire Ants. It's worth a try! Good luck!

Some good tricks are.....
1) try using boiling water, just dump it right onto the hole 2-3 times a day for 2-3 days, that usually takes care of them

2) Buy a half dozen oranges, blend them up reall good in a food processor. Add a bit of ornage juice to the mix, then dump all of the liquid directly onto the ant hill. The oils in the pulp and peel of oranges (limnoids) are highly toxic to ants, this works very well.

3) bait containing Boric Acid, one product; RAID ANT KILLER works very well, it is sold in a tiny red bottle in any hardware store. Just mix some of this solution in a shallow dish with some honey or jam and place it near the anyhill. The ants will collect it bring it down to the queen, and presto no more ants. This is a sure-fire way to get rid of them!

Good luck, I hope this helps.........who am I kidding of course it will help, you wont even need luck, its a sure thing!

Earlier this summer I used baking soda on an ant hill that had been established in our flower garden for a couple of years. I'm told that they take it into the nest and it is toxic. It worked.
