I have chronic weeds in places I don't need any plantlife to exist.
While I can poison the area, i'd prefer to avoid that. But i'm lazy...

Is salt any good? Its not dirt cheap, so if its good, how much? Does it help for a month, or some longer duration?

Last April~June we planted around 260 pumpkins. The ones planted in April have fruit about the size of a basketball. In the last week to ten days, they've turned from green to orange. Are they mature, or should they stay on the vine longer?

Ok, when I lived in southern Oregon, we got these catalogs with gorgeous flowers in them, and we got them in the mail without requests. Does anybody know the name of this catalog? I don't receive it where I am now, and I really would like to know what catalog it is! It has Iris, Roses, Tulips, and other bulbs. I can't remember for the life of me what it was!

Our Magolia tree has today been felled leaving a stump flush with the lawn. The aboralist suggested pouring sodium chloride on the stump and after a couple of weeks, burn the stump.
Our green fingered neighbour has suggested driving a copper nail into the stump instead.
I only want to grass it over eventually.
What's the general opinion?

We have an acre.
My husband wants to put pine trees along one side- that's what his father did. It's nice and private, but I like maples, weeping willows and oak trees.
I would like something that will grow quickly enough... say in the next 5-7 years. What do you suggest?

I have seen this question come up several times. Half say A.M., half say P.M. but no body ever tells me how or why they come to that conclusion? Please tell me whice you fell is the best time AND WHY YOU feel your time is the best time? Please give me a GOOD HORTICULTURAL reason for your choice. Morning? Evening? and why?

I recently put in new Zoysia grass which is doing very well. My old lawnmower (a troy built) is useless and breaking down. This is my second troy built product (the other is a roto-tiller and broke down too) and I am very unhappy with the brand. I am looking at other mowers and want a good one. I do not need a bunch of bells and whisltes like Honda seems to have on their models. I just want self-propelled, rear bagging, adjustable height mower that is good on zoysia and will last with regular maintenance. What brands do you all like, what problems have you had with them - would you buy the same brand again? Thanks.

I have a HUGE fly problem in my yard/on my patio. I have tried spraying the patio furniture with bug repellant, I have an electronic bug zapper (which only works on bugs at night, like moths), and those sticky fly strips. Nothing works to actually repel them. Anyone have any ideas????
