As almost everyone else has said everyone it sounds like poison oak or poison ivy.
Calamine lotion may helps but you should get a doctors opinion to be sure.
VERY IMPORTANT:
Do not Burn the plants to get rid of it, under any circumstance.
Burning it does not burn up the oils that will be released into the air, and if inhaled can cause very serious problems!

Hello Mommy:
To tell you the truth, that rash could have came from numerous things from your yard. Outdoor plants, both weeds and native plants may cause irritant skin rashes, from all parts of the plant too; leaves, stems, petals, roots and the bulbs.
Some of the best known irritant plants are:
Stinging nettles & thistles, poison ivy, oak and sumac.
Until you see the doctor, be careful not to spead it to that beautiful baby of ours..!
Garden Tip: try to identify the plants in your yard, if it turns out to be any of the above plants, try and get some spray and get them out of there... Also, look around the area (mostly in the shady spots of the yard) for a plant called Jewelweed. (search web for photos of this wonderful plant) The plant is in the same family as impatines, but a wild version, with small yellow flowers. The juicy inside will promply ease irritation and prevents breakouts, and has medicinal properties for skin rashes from the plants listed above.
Good Luck.....

Could be poison Ivy or Poison Oak. ( just outside chicago )Calamine lotion, or homemade paste of baking soda should neutralize the itch right away for you. If it persists you can take Benedryl for the antihistamine affect. Get some vegetaion killer and spray it around the plant to kill it off, use cardboard to deflect the spray off other wanted plants, and keep children away from the area for at least 72 hrs. ( read directions on container )
Good Luck!

Without a photo or a plant description, no one will be able to give you a good answer.
Different people are allergic to different plants. I know a person who breaks out in terrible itchy rash when they are in contact with common Bermuda lawn grass.
The most common plants to cause an itchy rash in the US are poison ivy & poison oak. http://poisonivy.aesir.com/
Good luck

Poison oak, poison ivy or poison sumac. They all can cause a very bad rash. Call a lawn service and have them come out and remove it or treat it so it dies.
