I have a HUGE fly problem in my yard/on my patio. I have tried spraying the patio furniture with bug repellant, I have an electronic bug zapper (which only works on bugs at night, like moths), and those sticky fly strips. Nothing works to actually repel them. Anyone have any ideas????

www.amazingflygun.com .I was told this worked but haven't tried it yet. It is a gun that kills them.A very effective&enexpensive fly dispensers, learned for at the doors: A clear sandwich bag filled 3/4 with water is tied at the top and hung above each side of the doorway. The flies get disoriented by the reflections, and can't fly into or near the buildings. These are also common on many porches, and mom and pop restaurants where flypaper is distasteful. This is very inexpensive and good for keeping the flies out.How it works surprised me.All i know is living in Louisiana with seafood boils, bar b ques, outdoor cooking it worked for me.My grandma called it..( The "Flies spiderweb" )but it isn't quite right when it comes to explaining why bags of water deter houseflies. houseflies, being highly edible and defenseless, are nervous types, and don't like to sit still when they see something moving nearby, because it could be a predator. The water bag acts like a lens in which the movements of people in the area are reflected. Even if the fly is too far from the action to see it directly, it can see a shifting of light and dark in the water bag, which it interprets as nearby movement, and it will fly away from the bag. The reason it doesn't work on any other insects is that the other insects listed don't have eyesight worth a darn. ALSO..
Try lavender. Bunches hanging near open doors and windows, bowls of it scattered around, or oils in a burner. hope this helps

Plant tansy near the door where people will bump into it releasing the fragrance. Flies hate it. Bug zappers only work if you buy them for your neighbors. They attract more bugs than they kill. Plant gardens near the porch and mulch with cedar. Suspend plastic bags full of about half gallon of water with a few pennies in the bottoms around. Dont know why that one works, but it does. Be sure you dont have anything around your house that attracts them. If you keep moist mulch and terra cotta pots turned on their sides around you can attract frogs that help.
Another thing that works for mosquitoes that I found helped for flies was to put one cup lemon scented ammonia and one cup lemon scented dish soap in your twenty gallon hose end sprayer and spray the yard once a week. This also has the added benefit that the soap helps the grass take in nutrients and the ammonia is a readily available source of nitrogen for the lawn, making it nice and green.

They put the smell in it to make you think it is powerful poison and you are extracting mighty vengeance upon the bugs. It is really just alcohol and nicotine, but nobody would feel like bad guy executioners spraying that..

I HAVE SPRAYED MY YARD WITH LIQUID SEVEN, WHICH GETS RID OF A LOT OF OTHER PESKY STUFF, TOO, THEN LATER IN THE EVENING I BURNED CITRONELLA. SMELLS OK AND YOU CAN GET BOTH ABOUT ANYWHERE. IT'S KINDA TEMPORARY BUT BETTER THAN NOTHING, YOU JUST HAVE TO KEEP AT IT FOR AWHILE. KEEP FOOD STASHED AWAY AND CLEANED UP FROM THE AREA AS THAT WILL ATTRACT THEM AS WELL AS ANYTHING. ALSO, KEEP THE TRASH BIN IN ANOTHER AREA IN YOUR YARD AWAY FROM WHERE YOU WANT TO BE.

Go to Walmart and buy yourself a fly trap. Just add water to the bag and you will notice the difference. I am almost fly-free.
