As a builder, do you place treated wood under the bottom of basement stair stringers? or not? Most homes I see run the stringers right down to the floor. Is this really an issue?

I am about to purchase an electric dryer. Unfortunately the previouse residents had a gas dryer. So, the outlet in the laundry room is just a regular everyday outlet (like the kind you would plug a lamp or toaster into).

Anyway, I know I will need to purchase the appropriate outlet and install a higher capacity breaker (to take place of the one there).

Is there anything else I need to do? Any tips?

My RV has a very small shower and I want to get the shower curtain off me when I'm showering. It sticks to my leg. I need something like a curved shower rod that I can hang from the ceiling and leave there permenently. I could then hook part of the shower curtain to that curved rod while I'm showering, then move it back to it's normal rod when it's not in use. I don't have enough space to leave it there. What can I use that's flexible enough to bend into an arc yet strong enough to hold up a shower curtain? Any creative minds out there today?

Is there anything I can do now (still below freezing here) to thaw my down spouts? They drain to an underground system and what little water has moved through them has spilled out next to the house and luckily, frozen.

We have stripped and polished floorboards in our house but for practical reasons (warmth, noise and a baby on the way) I would like to lay a carpet but wondered if there is a way to do this without ruining the floorboards so when we move we can just lift the carpet? Because of the size of the room the carpet would also have to be laid in three sections. Hope someone can help!

We want to do a very inexpensive counter top for a 23 year old trailer...Would it be ok to use linoleum, as long as you don't cut on it? We were thinking about the 12" squares?

I just pulled out my old leather coat. Its been in storage for a while, and even before then it was in used condition (hand-me-down). The coat is double breasted, 3/4 length black leather and the only problems are that the leather is stiff and feels hard, and there are 5 missing buttons and small pea-sized holes in the leather where the buttons used to be. I need any information on how to repair this coat and get it into the best condition possible for as little money as possible and I need the coat to be ready to wear by saturday morning.

Please, if you don't have any helpful info then don't answer, and in advance, thanks for all who do contribute information.

I have some equiment that requires 3 phase 220 voltage. The equipment had been running on 3 20amp(I think) breakers at work. I have a 2 phase 220 outlet mounted directly beneath the control panel. It is connected to 2 70amp breakers. Is this something that could easily be rewired to work for 3 phase? I know the obvious, turn off the power before doing anything.

Okay, If I'm going to make an opening for doors (30", 32", 36", etc.) and closets similar in opening, and the height being 80 and 1/2 to 81 and 1/2 inches, do I need to sheet rock the wood frame, or does the trim of the "pre-hung door," set up takes care of that issue? The same goes with the closet. I'm setting up two bifolds. Does the same aply?

I've got an electric over with a gas hob (4 ring). It has a glass lid. Its worked beautifully up until a couple of days ago, when suddenly turning it on high, after about 30 seconds it turned itself to low. I tried turning all four hobs on, same thing happened. It goes down (sometimes down then up again, sometimes just down) to 'low' as the flames stay on, doesn't go out altogether.

I've checked the lid - moved it further back etc - to check that it hasn't blocked off the gas.

The flames now have yellow ends, whereas they were blue before this happened. Can hear the gas drop (or at least hear the flames drop).

I've looked all over the net for hours but can't find anyone with this problem exactly, other than one person who's cooker (not hob) lowered after putting it on, and the answer to that was needing a new "FFD".

The burners are very clean, haven't had much use, kept clean after each use.

Really would appreciate help so much on this if anyone knows.

The lights in my bathroom & hallway are flickering; quick blinks, not completely on and off but quick flicks that are irritating to the eye. How do I fix this problem? Should I replace the circuit breakers or is it something more.

We have a wood burning fireplace that's an energy hog. Lots of cold air penetrates through it even with the damper closed. On top of that, it supposedly has a crack in the lining that will cost about $350 to fix. I hate it and don't use it. Do I have any options for getting an insert that will enable me to use the fireplace to generate heat? Maybe one of those ventless gel-fuel deals? If I get an insert or whatever else you suggest, please let me know if I'll need to fix the lining in order to use it. I do not have propane or natural gas in the house. Thanks!

I am going to put ceramic tile, (most likely unless a good deal pops up on porcelin), on a concrete floor. I have scraped all of the old vinyl floor off of the concrete and have gotten almost all of the glue up with the exception of little spots here and there. A neighbor came over and told me that I need to clean the concrete real good before I start applying the tile floor. Is this true and if it is what is a good product to use?
