I am planning for a remodel of kitchen and dining room. I need help and expertise on different types of flooring. Anyone have any experience or comments on these types: ceramic tile, slate, travertine or limestone. Or any other that you might know of. I need it to be very resistant to the abuse from my pets and children. (And husband) Any comments would be great. Thanks.

How does this work exactly? I'm getting confused with the type of lights & set up I need! Basically, it will be in Zone2 (i think, but thought its better to be on the safe side), I've been advised by my electrician that I need an IPX44 rated lights, do I also need a transformer & wouldn' this all look a bit clutted on top of the fly-over shelf, or is it well hidden?
Ideally I would like the mirror lights to come on seprately from the main light switch is this possible and would incurr yet another pull switch in my new small bathroom...

We had some very old linoleum that we removed, but there is still a thick layer of a paper-like material and glue under that. It's very difficult to remove. We have a product that is supposed to remove the glue, but the paper is taking forever. Advice?

I am putting down a laminated floor in my kitchen.
Does the floor have to be perfectly flat and smooth? The floor there now was covered by ceramic tile and was put down incorrectly. Therer is a lot of the cement on the floor and I have had to patch several places with plywood to remove rotton boards.

I am working on my special room dedicated to basketball. I installed laminate flooring and now want to make it look like a basketball court (half court- 2/5 scale) with key and 3 pt line.
I'm looking for a paint that will adhere to laminate flooring, hold up under fairly heavy foot traffic, and is available in red and blue colors.

Why do people put up Christmas decorations outside before Thanksgiving? They turn on the lights next door while I still have a scarecrow and pumpkin sitting in my front yard. Why do people start so early?? Let's let one Holiday happen before we go on to the next......

why the hell do the pound shops sell tools that don't work. eg. screw drivers that twist before the screw turns. saws that go blunt half way through a cut.
i think its for people who don't do DIY. so it looks like they do.
surely if the manufacturers spent a little more pence, they could make tools that actually work.
this has been pickling me for ages. anyone else feel the same or had similar problems?

the room is ~6ft square, the tiles will cover 2 and a half walls and go to a height of ~7ft but they will go round the bath, toilet, sink and a window. is £300 reasonable, it sounded like quite a lot to me.
