It is best to use an epoxy based paint. It will hold up to abuse and look good for years.

I've been advised not to paint a fridge, but went ahead and did it anyways. The important step in my painting was to use a good primer underneath the latex paint I used. After a couple of coats of primer and paint (bright red) the fridge looked pretty good overall.
If you choose to go ahead and paint the main thing to watch out for is that your new paint job will likely look nice but not be nearly as durable as the native coat. As long as you are careful with it I think it would probably be ok. Then again, if you have small children with toys that scratch things or like sticking magnets and things on your fridge it is likely to scratch the coat a litle bit more. I guess it's mainly just a trade off between looks and ease of maintenance...choose whichever is more important to you...

I just did my fridge black from white. Get the appliance paint in a spray can at a home store. It took 4 cans for my refrigerator, but it looked great. Just be certain to spray with light sweeping strokes and go back over after each coat is dry and it will not run, bubble or drip. Good luck!

I would strongly advise against painting them, especially with that big of a color difference. Surfaces such as those on a refrigerator and/or dishwasher need to be refinished as opposed to painted. The 1st link is to a company that sells refinishers and the DIY link goes into the process better.

Any store that sells paint will have appliance paint. I've never used it, but I know people who have and it's great. Tricky to spray without runs, but looks really good.

For your fridge - you can buy plexiglas panels backed with magnets and that would change the look without painting.

some commercial paints may run or bubble, especially since there will be changes in temperature. there may be a bike mechanic near your area - ask if he can powder-coat your appliances.
good luck!
