according to tradition, christmas decs and lights should only be on display for the 12 days of christmas - december 25th to january 6th inclusive.
if you put them up too early you'll be sick of them by christmas, ours go up the weekend before christmas and we dont decorate the outside of the house or have many extra lights on as its a waste of energy.

i do not comprehend the position your Catholic pal were on condition that decorations should be down by a particular date. My mom is Greek Orthodox Catholic and the dinner party of three Kings is Jan. sixth and her Christmas is Jan. seventh. I continually go away my indoor decorations up for that. although, we took our out of doors decorations down this 12 months previously New Years eve, because the temperatures were bearable and they were calling for hot temperature starting up the subsequent day and that's been very, very chilly in view that. If there is two ft of snow on the floor and the temps are contained in the children, i do not care how lengthy they should be up previously getting frost chew taking them down. your pal ought to stay in Florida.

I think that the week before christmas is the right time, but my wife thinks the begining of december is better.
After much heated discussion we decided that my opinion was not needed and was a stupid idea, and that if I have any more similar input i'll be spending a monastic xmas ,hungry and cold!! lol.

As a kid growing up and now with my own family, it's always been right after Thanksgiving that the decorations go up. (Just try to remember to take them down before Valentine's Day! )
Have a great Holiday!

On Friday! Day after Thanksgiving!
I went grocery shopping this morning and it turned my stomach to hear christmas music playing!
It is suppose to be a huge faux pas to do anything Xmas before Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving (decoration-wise) is suppose to be about cornucopias and orange color (not orange and black, that's halloween) and giving thanks.. not light! Not yet.

whenever you get ready. Most people turn on the lights the day after Thanksgiving.

I would turn them on after Thanksgiving. If your talking about setting up, then I would do it on a nice day, even if it is a little early.
