Why do people put up Christmas decorations outside before Thanksgiving? They turn on the lights next door while I still have a scarecrow and pumpkin sitting in my front yard. Why do people start so early?? Let's let one Holiday happen before we go on to the next......

Some people regard this as the season of lights, from November through January. It really has nothing to do with a specific holiday although some may go overboard. One year my neighbor had a stuffed turkey sitting on a toilet (no kidding, I think they brought it out of their house, didn't know what to do with it so they put a turkey on top to conceal it)in her front yard. It froze there in the snow and we had to look at it the whole winter. She also decorates her front lawn with a zillion santa's. Fortunately she's moving this year.

I guess it really depends on where you live... I live where there is lots of snow pretty early in the year. People put up the decorations early so they don't have to do it in the snow but most people don't turn them on until December 1st. You sound pretty frustrated. Why don't you talk to your neighbor but do keep in mind that we do live in a free world and not everyone has to abide by how and when you decorate.

I think some people hang the lights before it gets cold and icy, But seriously, leave the lights off until after thanksgiving

I start putting up mine early because it takes me so long to get them all up. Generally, we don't start until the day after Thanksgiving. But this year I got a jump start on it because I'm not sure whether my hubby will be home long enough to enjoy them or whether they will put him back in the hospital. No one in my neighborhood has ever complained. In fact, they stop by as we're putting them up to give suggestions and tell us how much they enjoy them.

I kind of feel that way to except as I have gotten a little older I think a lot of it might have to do with the weather, some people like to do it if the weather is nice. Besides that you don't really use them that long for the amount of time it takes to put them up.
