I am planning for a remodel of kitchen and dining room. I need help and expertise on different types of flooring. Anyone have any experience or comments on these types: ceramic tile, slate, travertine or limestone. Or any other that you might know of. I need it to be very resistant to the abuse from my pets and children. (And husband) Any comments would be great. Thanks.

OK slate, travertine, limestone all of these are natural stone they will scratch and stain if you don't maintain it right so if you want a floor that's going to hold up against husband's consider a good tile or any glazes porcelain there are some that look like natural stone good luck

I would think that ceramic tile would be your best choice. I have 3 dogs and have laminate flooring which has been there for almost 10 years. No scratches. I plan on putting more of it in the house as we redo rooms. I like hardwood and ceramic tile but I am sold on the durability of the laminate.

Ceramic tile the way to go for durability. Just be sure to seal the grout thoroughly! The other choices are more porous and prone to staining.

For the comments about laminate flooring, it is my understanding that it is not a good idea to use where moisture could be a problem. Moisture from the sink and dishwasher, over time, might be a problem. Laminate is definitely good for other areas. Check into that before you go with laminate.

Laminate flooring would be an excellent choice for a kitchen because of its durability. Laminate flooring is also fairly easy to install, and because it is a free floating floor it can also be removed easy. Laminate flooring also is available in many different styles which is perfect if you are matching the kitchen cabinets, trim work, decor, etc. Here is a website that has excellent information and articles about different flooring types http://www.wood-flooring-depot.com I hope it helps

Have you considered wood flooring or similar type? Out of your choices I would go with ceramic tile.

I would choose a smooth ceramic tile. It will be easier to clean. Kitchen floors need frequent cleaning.
