I paid a contractor to remodel my existing shed into a one bedroom apt. He almost never showed up, purchased over $3,000 worth of material and has $3,200 in cash of my money. He will not return my phone calls and has left me with a huge credit card bill, tons of material and an unfinished job. The only problem is I never got a permit from the city to remodel. Will I still be able to take him to court and sue? Does it look like I will get any of my money back? PLZ HELP!

The cabinet installer says the floor should go in first, but the flooring guy says the toe kick goes in first so that he has something to attach the molding to.
Who is right?

We are thinking about redesigning our kitchen and would like to move our load panel from a wall in the middle of our kitchen to one around 4 feet away. This would allow us to take down the wall where the load panel is currently located and will open up many design options. I need to know if this is a complex and expensive task, and if anyone has a sense of how much this might cost?

Need to varnish our new 2 by 4 porch railing soon to enhance its durability to the weather, children and pets. Painting or priming is not an option, too high maintenance. Need the ink gone to varnish it, with 4 children ...no time to sand it all off.

I'm moving into an apartment with two other people, and will be living in a room that has a great deal less space than where I currently am so I need to find a fairly good quality corner desk that won't take up the whole room. I've looked around some websites (target, walmart, etc.) but those are either too large or too small. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Last month I payed Home Dept $8300 for delivery, materials and labor for a laminate floor installation on about 1000 sq. ft. of my condo in Aventura,Fl. To begin, my condo association directs me to the city to get abuilding permit, right, I go to the City Hall and pick up an application.I need 2 copies of floor plans, a slab thickness survey and name, address ect.ect. and get it all notorized. Ok theres also space for the installation company's info, I call the installation Co. Home Depot has on my contract/invoise. I asked at the time of paying was there any additional costs? On the strength of HD, as a Co. I felt secure paying 100% up front to. This is how they sold it "we guarantee this, that ect. ect." well to make the point, I cannot get a permit now unless I pay $500 to the contractor, which aprox. $100 is for permit. $400 for thier signature and they are paid well for the work, which I already paid. I'd take my money back but I do need the floor and they'd charge 15% restock.
