the smell of my husband's armpits!!
I wash his t-shirts and shirts on a 40 degree cycle with washing powder, stain remover and fabric conditioner but there is still a whiff of his armpits coming through when I iron them!
Any ideas?

this makes me realize that my understanding of electric lights is wrong. i was under the impression that if i held a wire from each hole in an outlet to the base and side of a bulb, without getting electrocuted, that it would light up, and that if i wired up more than one bulb they would all light up, using up whatever wattage the filament carried. i don't know why one fixture would lead to a bulb being burn out quicker. is there a reason to think that there are power surges? my new thought is that the socket or something else in the fixture has a bad connection leading to an imperciptible "flickering" which wears out the filament.

We had a new furnace installed last month. Natural gas, forced air. Now that it's really getting cold outside it is impossible to keep the house comfortable. The thermostat (which is the same old one, not replaced) says 70 degrees but it's so cold in our house. The air blowing out of the vents is actually cold, not hot the way it was with the old furnace. The burner is on because I can hear it and the vent pipe is extremely hot. My husband says it is supposed to be this way, he says it is more efficient. How is it efficient to blow cold air into a room? Are new furnaces like this?

I've heard that regular mattresses have flame retardants that are bad for you, and wool ones don't. Does it really matter?

I have a comforter that is DRY CLEAN ONLY. My dog urinated on it and I am afraid that dry cleaning it will truly not get the stain/smell out. Can I take it to the laundry mat and just wash it on gentle in cold water?

I live by a highway where a lot of small animals get slaughtered because cars run them over. I don't want to waste the animals, but they don't taste very good.

Is it a good idea to use the animals as fertilizer?

Bought a house as-is and one of the bathroom sink faucets was not hooked up to be tested. To spare you details, we replaced the old broken faucet and in testing the new one discovered a leak in the drain that cannot be fixed without ripping out the wall. We were already planning to remodel this bath next year and can live without it being functional until then so we are going to pretend it doesn’t exist for the time being.

We plan to reuse the sink & faucet combo. Should we anticipate any issues from the new faucet being tested and then not being used for 8-12 months? We had to buy one of these three piece faucets: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=231690-72981-35902-SS&lpage=none which wasn’t exactly cheap.

This may be a silly question. I just know very little about plumbing and don’t always trust that my husband knows as much as he thinks. :-)

This is a small cottage (aka shanty) that has been added onto twice before I moved in. The floors are uneven. The whole place is approximately 600 square feet. I need it to be at least 3 feet off the ground, if not four. What is the best way to handle this? I do not plan on doing this myself.
