yes i have used them..normally what we do is start a fire and use one...as it dies we but real wood in there...its so much easier to get the fire going with one..or if we want a quick fire we use just that log...thing is we have cats and cant store the wood inside cause they tend to use the bathroom on it plus bugs from outside etc...they the duralogs sure are a lot cleaner than natural wood...to me they are well worth it

They burn really well. I've always used real wood and thought duralogs were stupid. But last weekend I ran out of wood, and i bought 2 of those things. They burned for about 6 hours, no poking or stoking necessary. And they put off a lot of heat!

Duralogs do burn well and are no more harmful then having an actual wood fire (enviromentally speaking).
I always prefer an actual wood fire but sometimes I'm in the mood for the 'effect' only which is when I use a Duralog.

We have a great wood stove, but we don't have to use it every day to keep warm. So instead of buying several hundred dollars worth of firewood every year, we use one Duralog (or off-brand log) and one piece of firewood in each fire. The combination works remarkably well and it only takes another piece of firewood every few hours to keep the fire going all evening. So far, it has seemed more economical to use them than to rely solely on firewood and kindling.

Good luck!
