I think it may be illegal to do major jobs like re-wiring the entire house etc... but unsure about smaller jobs like putting in new plug sockets and light switches, any ideas anyone?

(when I say illegal I mean that you will be unable to sell your house if you can't produce proper certification for any electrical work done for the people who inspect it)

There are 5 total wires coming in to the ceiling fixture. One set has 2 wires, orange and black. The other set is 3 wires, black(tied to other black), White, and Red.
Can get original light to work without turning off, but dimmly lights hallway, no other lights work though. No ground is present at fixture/house-50+years old.
Is this an open circuit because the ceiling fan isnt installed, thus causing the other outlets/lights not to work?
What method can I use to get lights/outlets working again?
Also, which of these wires is neutral to hook up ceiling fan, should I tie the black and blue wire in to the already tied together black wires? Or based on previous questions posted, should the blue and black get tied to different wires?

My neighbour has this neat little power snow shovel (not quite a snow blower). It's hand-held, like a weed wacker - actually sounds like one too. I can find electric ones, but don't want a cord. It's quite powerful. Any ideas what it might be?

machine? The blanket is not a comforter, nor a bedspread, just a king size cozy blanket I use underneath my bedspread. Can this type of blanket be washed in a standard capacity washer and dryer without destroying the machines?

I am interested in making my own soil heating cables and I was wondering if anyone know how to go about this?
I have a basic concept of what they do but I am little fuzzy on some things like what resistors to use and what gauge of wire to use, basically some math and some practical experience.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is this normal? Does it have anything to do with the water expanding as it freezes? There is a heater and water circulator so it's not completely frozen but pretty close?

He has several types of big saws, and all the little power tools-drills, dremels (sp?), power sanders and the like. He is good at woodworking, but I don't think he has many woodworking type tools. Any guy or girl out there who enjoys working with tools, what tools are you glad you own, or what tools are on your wish list??

Thanks!

Don`t worry as it is sheltered. I live in North Tyneside in England. That is why i think i am lucky. The reindeer appeared in our garden last Christmas and has stayed ever since. It is on a veranda outside the door to no where. It likes lights on at Christmas.

Howdy,

As anyone used this "Shelflink" system of attaching 2 X 4's for the purpose of making an easy/sturdy shelving system?
If so - any pros/cons/thoughts?

Here's a link to one of these systems:

I know there are commercial products available to clean the inside of the dishwasher, but I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of using cream of tartar and hydrogen peroxide? I believe my wife used this mixture once a long time ago and it worked quite well but neither of us can remember the AMOUNTS of each ingredient used. Does anyone know?
