There are 5 total wires coming in to the ceiling fixture. One set has 2 wires, orange and black. The other set is 3 wires, black(tied to other black), White, and Red.
Can get original light to work without turning off, but dimmly lights hallway, no other lights work though. No ground is present at fixture/house-50+years old.
Is this an open circuit because the ceiling fan isnt installed, thus causing the other outlets/lights not to work?
What method can I use to get lights/outlets working again?
Also, which of these wires is neutral to hook up ceiling fan, should I tie the black and blue wire in to the already tied together black wires? Or based on previous questions posted, should the blue and black get tied to different wires?

that's a risk, in case you have an attic above the mattress room, and that's confusing. First come to a decision the place you want the fan to flow. Drill a small hollow interior the ceiling there, and push a stiff at as quickly as piece of cord up into the attic. A cord coat hanger works solid. Then arise interior the attic and locate the cord. sparkling out the insulation to divulge the ceiling sheetrock. hint a steel ceiling fan container around the place the cord got here by way of, and decrease out the hollow. installation some 2x4 bracing, linked to the joists, to assist the container and fan. Now the actual relaxing starts off. locate the right of the wall above the change you elect to regulate the fan. Drill a a million/2 to 5/8 hollow in the process the right plates, as on the edge of direclty above the change as a risk. Then kill the circuit that controlls the change. do away with the conceal and pull the change as a techniques out of the container as a risk. do away with between the tabs from the right of the container. If it replaced right into a 15 amp circuit breaker or fuse controlling the change, you will want 14 gage cord. For a 20 amp breaker, use 12 gage cord. Your going to might desire to fish the cord in the process the hollow you made above the change, down interior the wall, and into the container the place you bumped off the tab. that's advisable to purchase or borrow a fish tape for this. the different end of the cord will flow to the container the place you want the fan. connect white, black and floor(bare cord) to the right terminals on the change. Hook up the fan in accordance to the instructions that incorporate it. turn the capacity lower back on, and you will possibly desire to be arranged. in case you haven't any longer have been given an attic, you are able to the two decrease into the ceiling to run the wires or use conduit to run the wires on the floor of the wall and ceiling, and floor mount the container to the ceiling. merely be advantageous the container is securely anchored to a joist. If the container isn't securely fastened you risk haveing the fan come crashing down onto despite is below it.

Where do you live. ? Are you in the U.K.? We don't usually have orange colored wire here (US) unless some one ran out of the black and white and used an orange. What is the line voltage? It sounds like it was wired in series if the lights are dim. The bulb is only getting half the voltage required. Can you upgrade question, does the fan have it's own switch ?

You should hire a licensed electrician to sort things out. My guess is loose wire nut connections.
