I know there are commercial products available to clean the inside of the dishwasher, but I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of using cream of tartar and hydrogen peroxide? I believe my wife used this mixture once a long time ago and it worked quite well but neither of us can remember the AMOUNTS of each ingredient used. Does anyone know?

After repeated use there is a residue buildup (maybe from a combination of the detergent and minerals from hard water). The ingredients I mentioned remove this buildup and leave it fresh smelling and squeaky clean. =)

Bleach may sanitize but I doubt that it will clean it.

I get mineral deposits and such in my dishwasher from time to time... However instead of shelling out a small fortune for the commercial products.. I use either sweetened or nonsweetened drink mixes.... The small packets of kool-aid that you have to add sugar to work really well.... Don't worry the dye doen't stain your dishwasher.... So, does ice tea mix and lemonade mixes... It also smells really good AND since you do drink it it's essentially non-toxic.... It only cost(s) pennies to run a few packets or a scoop or two through an emtpy running dishwasher cycle.

I tested this with a drink mix that I didn't like... it worked...Good luck

To clean the inside of the dishwasher, occasionally run an empty dishwasher with a cup of baking soda and 1 1/2 cups of vinegar. This not only cleans the inside of the dishwasher, but also freshens it as well.

About once a month I throw 1/2 cup of regular bleach in my dishwasher to kill germs, etc.
