Hi, You need to use a shade that is a blackout one. These can come in roller, roman or cellular. They usually have a silver liner to ensure all light is blocked out! I found a website that gives some good info and has some good links http://www.windowshadesblind.com/blackout-cellular-shades.html You might be able to find them at wal-mart. Hope this helps and you get some ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

I think what you are looking for is called dubatine, they are also called blackout curtains. People use them in Alaska to block out light during the 24hour a day light periods.
