machine? The blanket is not a comforter, nor a bedspread, just a king size cozy blanket I use underneath my bedspread. Can this type of blanket be washed in a standard capacity washer and dryer without destroying the machines?

Put the blanket in the washer. If you have to stuff it down to fit it in, and I mean really stuff it down then the answer is don't do it.
I do wash my king comforter in my standard washer and the machine is fine, but it is not recommend. I have to wash it a couple time as I need to pull it out and re-position it. I really should not be doing it. If the blanket fits in with ease and it can move around freely (like clothing) during the wash cycle then go for it! Do it on the permanent press or delicate cycle depending on the material of the blanket. Happy washing :)

I agree with the poster above me. If the blanket can go in easily then it's ok. I usually wash my blankets that go under the comforter's in my washing machine as well.

*Edited* to add:

If you find it a 'bit' snug in the washing machine but not too much. You could also spread the blanket out and roll it in a horizontal line then carefully put the blanket in the machine in a circular angle. This also works for me and no problems.

Depending on the weight of the blanket when wet you might have to take it to the laundry mat and have it washed. .Just so you don't break your machine. I have a super capasity and I wash all my blankets but, when I purchased it I specifically asked the sales person if it could handle such a load....

I suggest you read this article: http://www.apwagner.com/appliancerepaircenter/Washers.htm

"This link goes to how full you can fill your top loader, and right below that is how full you can fill your front loader. You'll want to fill your top loader loosely to the top with clothing. If you pack clothes too tightly, the water won't circulate well, and they won't get clean. That being said, you don't want to do too small of a load either. After all, you're using electricity and water anyhow, so you may as well get the most out of it without overdoing it."

No. Even if it fits in there there will not be enough room for it to agitate. I would take it to The laundromat & use the double load washers
