I really like the chocolate brown leather couches that Pottery Barn sells, but I was warned off of them by a female friend who said that nothing says frat-boy bachelor like a leather couch. What do you think?

Not at all. Leather (especially brown) is VERY practical. It also lasts, so it's economical in the long run also.

Since I'm an empty nester and have a brown leather sofa, loveseat, two chairs and an ottoman, guess I know what your female friend thinks about us, huh?

BTW, my married son, college daughter & husband all LOVE the brown leather couch. They say it's the best couch they've ever taken a nap on. Buy what YOU like and stop worrying about what your female friends say. Sounds like you have good taste. :-)

heeeeeyyyy, I have a chocolate brown leather (ok microsuede) couch...what does that say about me?

Get the furniture you like, just toss a couple of interesting throw pillows on it and pick up the dirty socks, this morning's shower towel, and last night's beer bottles off the floor. ;)

Naw....go with the leather if you really want it. The only thing that really screams "frat-boy bachelor" to me is a futon. You just KNOW he sleeps on it too!

Well mix it with a number of other coordinating elements and you'll be fine. If the room is all brown all leather then yes your friend is right.

no I don't think so - you can always add some extra throw pillow's to "soften" it a little
