I'm renting a little house that isn't in the greatest of shape, but the rent is cheap. The closet isn't very functional, the whole house could use new baseboards, there is a couple of very small places where the particle board floor has rotted and needs to be replaced, the drain on the bathtub doesn't work properly, some windows don't have screens. Are these small unnecessary things I should deal with or go to the landlord? And how much money should I spend on making a rent house feel more like home when I'm not living here for the rest of my life?

Anyone know where I can buy glow in the dark paint? I tried craft stores like Michaels and A.C. Moore but all they have is little containers of it. I'm looking for a spray can or a big container of it. Anyone?

The kids like to hang out food for the birds in the winter which we would normally buy. I'm wondering if there is a more economical way to feed the birds.

Cheers!

Actually Im in mid Cal (between Sac and SF) but I want a front yard that is reasonably green colored without putting alot of water on it in the summer (unless sometimes grey-water). I wouldnt be against a return to something that was originally in the area also as long as its grassy-short.

And no I dont want to put in rock and paint it green.

It's probably impossible to picture, but the window is part of the dining room and part of the entryway/living room. The carpet is that old mottled beige/brown stuff from the eighties and the walls are off-white. Our couch is a sage/olivish green with beige trim around the edges of the pillows and the accent colour is red, with everything else being relatively earthy. No particular style...maybe slightly modern and slightly country?? I'm trying to decide if white curtains would look best to make it more open and airy, or if a darker colour (suggestions?) would look better to make it seems cozier. Opinions???

My house is 5 years old. The carpet looks like it is 15 years old (cheap builders carpet). I have 2 dogs (both about 50lbs) and a cat. We are trying for our first child. Would you reccommend the hardwood laminate flooring or a better quality carpet?

We have an old wood burning stove, and we were thinking about putting a gas insert inside it with those gas logs. That way instead of using wood, we could just have it hooked up to our natural gas and turn it on that way. But when we visited our local fireplace store, they told us that can't be done. We're wondering if that is true, or if they were just trying to sell us a new gas stove. Any advice out there??

I currently have a bagless Bissell. I thought it was doing a good job until my mom brought her Kirby to my new house and got alot more dirt out! So I am thinking about a new vac. My mom loves her Kirby, it's like 15 years old but still does a great job..and it's self-propelled:) But they are sooo expensize! My dad loves their Electrolux. It also does a good job but I hate dragging around the tank and the wand. So does anyone have any suggestions for a good vac that won't break me? I'd really like to not have to spend over $500. I don't have any pets in the house and the windows are new and tight so we don't have much dust coming in either. Mainly it's just what we track in on our shoes and then food particles.
