My yard has these factors working against it: 4 dogs, 1 huge tree which creates lots of shade, and poor drainage. I am trying to figure out (1) what to grow out there and (2) how to fix the drainage problem. I am not getting rid of the dogs or the tree. Anyone know of any good books or websites that can help? Anyone know what is a sturdy type of plant that can handle these conditions?

Thanks to everyone for the help, I live in Ontario, Canada zone 5. I have a few questions:
1: I have 12 lilly bulbs and 2 day lilly bulbs and I want to plant them now because I don't want them to die over the winter in my closet. I know they probably won't come up this year, but will they come up next year?
2: I have 35 gladiolis, I would also like to plant them now because I'm scared of them dieing. Should I plant them now for them to come up next year? Do I have to take them out for Winter?
3: I have Dahlia bulbs, Liatris, and sedum bulbs, should i plant those now too to come up for next year?
4: I have Canterbury Bells seeds, and they are biennuals. Should I plant them now to come up next year? Or is it to late? Will they bloom next year?
5. I also have columbine seeds. They are biennual too, is it too late to plant them so that they bloom next year? Will they bloom next year i plant them now?
6: Will any seeds, or bulbs last through winter in a cool, dark place?
Thanks all!

In my area in Canada they are wild, and sometimes invasive. I found about 200 flowers on the side of the road and of course I picked a whole bunch of them. How can I take out the bulbs and plant them? I know that they will most likely die, but they will grow again next year right? How do I do it? Any tips? How long to they bloom for usually? Do I just take the bulb only and cut the flower stem off, or do I just leave the stem and flowers on? Please help! Thanks in advance. I'm pretty sure it is a daylilly, oh and don't tell me its illegal, i've heard it all before.

Hi, I own two apple trees and on all of them there have been small irregular raised warts. The warts are light brown and eyesore, they don't affect the tast or texture of the apple but I cannot sell them in this condition. What are they and how can they be prevented?

I would like to find one for my mother-in-law's bday. I'd like a live potted plant (she doesn't have a garden to plant it in). I don't know if such a thing even exists but if it does and you know about it I'd appreciate your help. Thanks!!

This just started growing in the planter next to my mailbox, and it so beautiful. It seems to multiply, the foliage is thick purple and a 3 petal pink flower grows at the end. If anyone can tell me what the name is, its apprecated. Thank u.

Regarding above ground pools? We have a fence around the inground but also purchased an above ground (safe for the little one) about 4ft deep. Does it need to be in a fenced in area according to the law?

I've changed the filter and the water still tastes bad. I have a baking soda container in the fridge to take out some of the odors, but I think it might be getting to the water now. Help me out! The water is nasty!!

A key is inserted into a box and you turn the key to on or off this allows current to flow to the air conditioning. Great for hotels when clients leave the a/c on all day.

My front lawn looks great except for these patches of lighter colored grass my landscaper says is "bent grass". He claims that it comes from using cheap seed (which is entirely possible, as our builder was fairly notorious for taking shortcuts with landscaping) and there really isn't much you can do about it short of tearing it out and reseeding in the fall.

Its widespread enough that I cant see tearing it out...it would mean tearing up almost the entire lawn if we wanted to get it all.

Any other options ? I'm not against chemical herbicides but I'd rather avoid using them if possible.

For reference...we live in New England and the lawn is a mix of Kentucky Bluegrass and fescue.
