I realize that shutting off the vent may be damaging to the central air conditioning unit, but the damage to my lungs from second hand smoke concerns me more.

I've attempted to filter the smoke with a variety of hepa and charcoal-treated materials that I've place inside the vent, but this doesn't help at all.

I haven't been able to find a damper in any store or even online that will seal off the vent completely. I've considered sealing the slats of the existing vent with some kind of spackle or epoxy but wonder if these materials will break down when blasted with heat this winter.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how this problem might be best approached?

As bath suites are so cheap to buy, I am interested in knowing if anyone has gone down the route of re-enamelling an old bath with success? The quotes I have had are expensive in comparison to replacing it! Any feedback would be gratefully received! Thanks

I'm having a wedding soon in our back yard and we're outfitting the back yard with 10 tables. The tables would otherwise rest on the grass but we're considering rubber or some other type of material that might easily be put down. That way the ladies high heels won't get burried in the dirt, and our grass might survive the night. Not to mention the odd hole in the ground that the dogs have dug. Any ideas on what material or product to use that will be installed in the back yard?

My family recently turned our garage into a room fo our uncle to move in. Because of the position of the water heater, there was no way to avoid the heater not being in the room. My uncle has lived in there for the past year or so with no problems at all, but now he's moving out, and I'm being pushed out there to allow my younger brothers to have their own rooms. I am INCREDIBLY paranoid about something happening to the water heater... A fire, gas leak, or carbon monoxide leak, all which can kill me in my sleep. We already have a smoke detector in there, but I plan on getting a CO detector and a natural gas detector just to be safe. There is a window in there, which I plan on keeping cracked open at all times to allow fresh air into the room. Am I being overly paranoid? What are the chances of a water heater catching fire or leaking carbon monoxide or natural gas?

I was told I would get a quote for kitchen cabinets from Direct Buy once I receive a special invitation. I was not informed that I would have to buy a $4549.00 membership nor that I would have to sit through an hour sales pitch. Upon doing as the sales men told me to, I never did get my quote to compare if the membership would offset the membership fee enough to make it work it.
My question is, say I saved 30% off cabinets that Home Depot quoted $9,000.00 for. The savings would be $3000.00, but I will now have to pay for delivery. I could not get a Direct Buy sales person to give me a quote when I knew exactly what I wanted.
Isn’t this just taking the profit away from local retailers and giving it to this company? Instead of shopping around for a good price and taking the item home when purchased, isn’t this paying upfront more money than I would save for the inconvenence of waiting for my purchase and paying for shipping though I still have to pick it up myself?

the plant is woody and I mainly see it growing in ditches when we drive through the country. It has many small leaves groupled together. the flowers are red and bunched together like lilacs and smell like some sort of jam. I picked a flower when I went for a walk earlier to get a closer look. The stem felt sticky when I was carrying it home. I'm just curious about this plant. I tried googling it but I couldn't find anything like it. I am from mn btw if the plant varies in certain areas

We sanded down years and years (old house, perhaps built in the 30s or 40s...maybe older) of paint (maybe 10 layers) down to the original wood on a bathroom door and also the woodwork on the door frame to this bathroom door. Doing so removed the paint that caused the space on the wood frame to breathe again. We painted a fresh coat on the door frame molding, but once it dried, we noticed an ammonia/pee smell coming from the area that can now "breathe." Any suggestions on how to combat this smell? It's pretty strong.

I have some cast iron that needs to be reseasoned. I don't remember how it is done. How do you get years of use off and what is the proper way to clean them after use? Can you just wash them in a sink of warm soapy water. If not how are they sanitized? Thank you!
